{"id":375,"date":"2014-03-31T19:01:54","date_gmt":"2014-03-31T19:01:54","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.nicktailor.com\/?p=375"},"modified":"2020-06-17T05:26:52","modified_gmt":"2020-06-17T05:26:52","slug":"how-to-upgrade-and-downgrade-packages-with-rhn-satellite","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/nicktailor.com\/tech-blog\/how-to-upgrade-and-downgrade-packages-with-rhn-satellite\/","title":{"rendered":"How to Upgrade and Downgrade Packages with RHN Satellite 5.0"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">RHN Satellite Package upgrade and downgrade processes<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Listing packages installed or available for upgrading on a host.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Click on systems\n<ol>\n<li>Next click on the target hostname<\/li>\n<li>Now click on the software tab<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<ul>\n<li>\u00b7 If you click on <strong>list\/remove<\/strong> Installed packages this will show you the current listed packages for the target host, you can also search by the specific package in the search field above the listed packages<\/li>\n<li>\u00b7 If you click on <strong>upgrade packages<\/strong>, this will only list the current available packages the host system is currently subscribed to.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Note: just because you don\u2019t see newer packages available does not mean they are not out there.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Package Search on all available channels<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>There are two ways you can do this\n<ol>\n<li>Method 1 \u2013 Click on <em>Channels<\/em> at the very top, then <em>package search, next type in the package name<\/em><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<ul>\n<li>\u00b7 Once you have found the package, click on the package name, and it will take you to a details screen, on that screen it will have available from: in that section it will list out the channels that are subscribed to satellite that have the package you are looking for available from.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ol>\n<li>Method 2 \u2013 This is the way I like to do it \u2013 Click on <em>systems<\/em>, then <em>software tab<\/em>, and then <em>install new packages<\/em><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<ul>\n<li>\u00b7 Next search for the package you wish to install, this will the latest available package from all channels available, and if you click on the package it will show the available channels for that specified package.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Upgrading\u00a0 packages<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Click on <em>systems<\/em>, select the host, then <em>software tab<\/em>, and then <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">upgrade<\/span>\n<ol>\n<li>Search for the packages you wish to upgrade and select them by checking the box to to the left of it<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><strong><em>Note: if you are going to do select all, I would recommend against this, as if you select this button, even its not listed on the page it will literally select all the packages available. So select them individually is the way to go.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Once completed check boxing scroll down to the bottom right and select upgrade packages, it will go to another confirmation screen, click on confirm.<\/li>\n<li>This will then be queued.<\/li>\n<li>If you click on Events, you should see it there and shortly within 5 min window it should disappear, if it does not then something is wrong, and you need to get a hold of satellite admin to investigate.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Downgrading\u00a0 packages<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Click on <em>systems<\/em>, select the host, then <em>software tab<\/em>, and then profiles\n<ol>\n<li>Select the stored profile of the date\/time that Under \u201cCompare to Stored Profile\u201d and hit compare.<\/li>\n<li>You should see a list of packages that it is now going to synch back to, select sync package bottom right.<\/li>\n<li>You should see it go the events page, after about 5 mins it should no longer be listed in events, which means the server picked up the process and should begin downgrading shortly.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>RHN Satellite Package upgrade and downgrade processes Listing packages installed or available for upgrading on a host.
